Tips on being a Baller (FAQ)

This post is for all you Baller Babes who want to take your protein bar & ball game to the next level...

Our mixes are "no-bake, minutes to make" but sometimes things don't go as planned in the kitchen. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of frequently asked questions about how to make perfect bars & balls, along with our favorite tips and tid-bits!

Q:  What do I do if my balls crumble when I try to roll them?

A:  Not to worry, they just need more water. This can be due to your nut butter or honey being thicker or drier than average. (Example: a new jar of creamy peanut butter will be moister than an old jar of crunchy almond butter.)

Here are our top 3 solutions...

  1. Add 1 to 2 Tbls additional water to the mix (up to 1/4 cup extra if needed)
  2. Wet hands before rolling balls
  3. Be sure to "squish" the ball-dough in your hand first to compress it before rolling

Q:  The dough is sticking to my hands when I'm rolling balls. Can I avoid this?

A:  You may experience this with our Primal Protein Bar Mix because the Whey Protein (milk) is by nature a stickier ingredient. Also adding a lot of honey or syrup can be a sticky situation. Try one of these easy solutions:

  1. use an ice cream scooper/ baller instead of your hands
  2. or put coconut oil on your hands before rolling
  3. or try chilling the "bardough" before rolling

You can also skip the rolling all together, and instead, press the mixture onto a flat surface with a spatula or rolling pin. Then cut little bite-sized squares. As always, store sealed & chilled.

Q:  I accidentally added too much liquid. Are my protein bars ruined?

A:  Ooops, not to worry, they are just fine!  Here are some easy solutions:

Add Rolled or Quick Oats (try 1/4 Cup)

or add Coconut Flour (a little goes a long way so try a spoon at a time)

If still too moist, place in a sealable container and allow to "set" in the fridge or freezer for a few hours before forming.

Q: What is the best way to keep my bars moist?

A:  Make sure you are keeping your fresh balls, bars & bites in an airtight sealed container. Another helpful solution is to make them on the moister side initially by adding 1-3 Tbls extra Liquid. This will help them stay moister longer too.

Q: What is the best way to press my protein and energy bars?

A:  Use a spatula, your hands, a pastry/ pizza roller, or a full-sized rolling pin... A few flexible options depending on what you keep in your kitchen!

You can do this on any clean, flat surface: countertop, parchment paper, silicon mat, cutting board, or in a cookie sheet.

We love to press them right into the sealable container we plan to store them in because it's less clean up to do later. At Creation Nation, we're all about EASY food hacks. :)
